Distribution and habitat: Dry places of Malabar and Travancore, Deccan and Coimbatore.
Botany: A very prickly small shrub; branches hairy.
- Leaves: broadly elliptic, obtuse, mucronate, hairy beneath, deciduously scabrid pubescent above; petioles hardly any. Bracteoles simple spines, usually long.
- Flowers: axillary sessile, two outer sepals large ovate subspinose, denticulate, softly hairy. Corolla purple.
- Fruit: Capsule four seeded.
