Distribution and habitat: Throughout India in hilly areas.
Botany: A tall aromatic perennial shrub often gregarious, pubescent or villous through out.
- Leaves: Lower leaves 5-10 by 2.5-5 cm, ovate in out line deeply pinnatisect with small stipule like lobes at the base, pubescent above, white-tomentose beneath, uppermost smaller, 3 fid or entire, lanceolate.
- Flowers: Subglobose heads, 3-4 mm long, inspicate or sub erect or horizontal panicled racemes, outer flowers female, very slender, inner disk flowers fertile, bisexual, bracts ovate or oblong, margins scarious,
- Fruits: Oblong- ellipsoid minute achenes.
Chemical constituents: Adenin, Larvicidal volatile oil, Cineole, Quebrachitol, Tauremisin, Tetracosanol, Thujone, Artemisin.
Uses: Anthelmintic, antiseptic, expectorant. Leaves and flowering tops- in asthma, nervous and spasmodic affections, inflammations, measles and anaemia

Propagation: Seeds and stem cutting
Manure and fertilizers: A fertilizer dose of 60-80 kg nitrogen, 40-60 kg phosphorus, 60 kg potash/ha may be applied for a good yield.
Harvesting and storage: Crop duration is about 4.5-5.0 months. The crop is harvested as soon as flower initiation takes place. The crop is cut 15-30 cm above the ground level and dried in the shade.
