Distribution and Habitat: Through out India.
Botany: Woody climber, stem stout
- Leaves: Simple, large ,ovate, acute, cordate, glabrous above, white tomentose beneath, 7.5-30 by 6.3-25 cm;
- Flowers: Large, silky, pubescent in long peduncled cymes, calyx white tomentose outside, sepals 1.7 cm long; corolla 5-6.3 cm long, corolla tubular-infundibuliform;
- Fruits: Dry, globose, about 2.0 cm in diameter, apiculate.
Chemical constituent:
- Seed- 1-tri contanol, β-sitosterol and epifriedelinol(leaf and seed); ergine, isoergine, penniclavin, ergometrin, caffeic acid, ethyl caffeate, ergolin alkaloids, hallucinogens, lysergic acid amide and isolysergic acid amide
- Seed oil - Fatty acids
- Roots - tetradecanyl palmitate and 5, 8- oxidotetracosan-10-one
Uses: Root is used in anorexia, nervous weakness, cerebral disorders, cardiac debility and the leaves are used in boils, ring worm infection, eczema
Formulations: Ajmodadi churna
Propagation: Stem cuttings and seeds.
