Distribution and habitat: Medium tree seen in semi evergreen and evergreen forests and in the plains. Seen in peninsular India and Sri Lanka.
Botany: Small to medium sized tree, brown bark. Leaves simple, alternate. elliptic-oblong, acute or rounded at base, shining. Flowers yellowish; male in dense 2.5-3.5 cm long spikes; female in very short, often clustered racemes, Fruit globose. about 1 cm in diameter
Uses: Roots are useful in treatment of mental disorders, headache, fever, jaundice. Leaves are used as shampoo for cleaning hair.
