Distribution and habitat: Throughout India.

Botany: A much branched medium sized tree. Wood brown and soft.

  • Leaves : Simple, opposite, oblong lanceolate, tapering at both ends.
  •  Flowers : Greenish white, 5-7.6 cm across, in terminal corymbose cymes.
  • Fruit: Yellowish or pinkish, globose, 3.8-5 cm diameter, edible, insipid though sweet scented.
  • Seeds : 1-2, grey in large cavity of the succulent pericarp.

Chemical constituents: α-pinene, ocimene

Properties and uses : Astringent, diuretic bitter, sweet, haemostatic, depurative, vulnerary, treatment of Liver complaints, sore eyes
