Distribution:  Found throughout India . 

Botany: A stout bushy shrub 0.6-1.2 m high. Bark thin smooth, yellowish. Young branches terete, glabrous. 

  • Leaves : 7.5-15 X 2.5–6.3 cm, membranous, variable in size and shape, elliptic oblong or elliptic lanceolate, obtuse, acute or acuminate, glabrous on both sides, base tapering. Petioles 6-13 mm long; pedicels 4-6 mm long. Calyx densely pubescent, 3 mm long.
  • Flowers: White, odourous, in terminal sessile corymbose pubescent cymes. Corolla tube 3 mm long. Style white, glabrous or nearly so, stigma green, narrowly clavate, puberulous.
  • Fruits : 6-14 mm. diameter, globose, black, smooth

Properties: Purgative, antidropsical, anticephalalgic

Uses: Used in treatment of jaundice, boils, ulcerated nose, hemorrhoidal  pains, rheumatism, visceral obstructions, dropsy
