Distribution and Habitat: A native of Brazil; Naturalized in many parts of India.

Botany: A shrub, 0.9-1.8m,

  • Leaves: Palmately 3-5  lobed leaves, easily recognized by the stipitate, yellow viscid glands, which cover the leaf margins, petioles and stipules,
  • Flowers: Small red flowers in glandular corymbose cymes. Stamens 10-12.

Properties: Emmenagogue, purgative, emetic

Chemical constituents: Jatropholones A & B

Uses: It is used in cancer, boils, carbuncles, eczema, and itches
