Distribution and Habitat: Found throughout Kerala, Indo- Malasia
Botany: Shrub to small tree, epiphytic when young. Bark greyish-brown, rough, cracked.
- Leaves: 12.7-25.4cm x 7.6-15.2 cm, obovate-oval, tapering to base, rounded at apex, glabrous, dark green and shining above, paler beneath.
- Flowers: Cream coloured, 7.6-10.2 cm long, in trichotomous cymes. Corolla lobes less than half as long as tube recurved.
- Fruit: 3.8-5 cm, ovoid, apiculate, smooth, shining; seeds many, dark brown, ovoid. It flowers and fruits at all times.
Properties: Antipyretic, anti-oxidant, antibacterial
Chemical constituents: Saponins, flavanoids, sterols. scopoletin is present in bark.
Propagation: stem cuttings
