Distribution and Habitat:  Found through out the plains of India, Assam, Western Peninsula, Myanmar and Nepal.

Botany: Spreading tree, branches rough and scarred, young parts very silky, bark grey 

• Leaves: Alternate, deciduous petiole long, broadly winged, at times, ½ amplexicaul, older portion glabrous but younger silky pubescent, lamina simple, oblong lanceolate, strongly serrate
• Inflorescence: Umbels axillary and contains 5-8 flowers; flowers yellow, 2.5 cm in diameter
• Fruit: Globose, formed of thickened calyx enclosing indehiscent carpels.

Properties: Cooling agent, and laxative

Chemical constituents: Stem bark-betulin, betulinic acid, lupeol, morolic acid. Stem contains  flavonone glyceride.

Uses:  Bark as ingredient of medicine for carbuncle, fistula, inter coastal neuralgia, pleurisy, pneumonia and sore.
