Distribution and Habitat: Found throughout India.
Botany: Very slender procumbent, long trailing herb; stem trails from 15-45 cm,copiously branched, covered with fine spreading hairs
- Leaves: Alternate, stipules persistent, petioles 0.3-0.6 cm long, trifoliate, leaflets obovate, truncate with a few adpressed hair on the lower surface
- Flowers: Pink or white, axillary or in sparse lax racemes, bract deciduous
- Fruits: Pods, with a straight upper edge and indented lower edge, reticulately veined.
Properties: It is antiseptic, antispasmodic, sympathomimetic, CNS stimulative, and curariminetic.
Chemical constituents: β-Phenyl amine, indole-3-acetic acid, trigonelline, Hypaphorine(major) and its Methyl ester, N, N-di-Methyl- tryptophan Methyl ester.
Uses: It is used in diarrhea, dysentery, eye-troubles, blindness, whitlow, Spleen complaints, menorrhagia and diuretic.
