Distribution and habitat: Tropical Africa to India. 

Botany: Prostrate herb rooting at nodes. 

  • Leaves: Elliptic ovate to oblanceolate, margin entire or distantly toothed in the upper half, apex acutely apiculate. Bracts in four opposite pairs; bracteoles spathulate;
  • Flower: Calyx lobes four; outer calyx lobes unequal. Corolla white with pink nerves; tube urceolate; stamens 4. Capsule shining; seeds 2, orbicular, flattened.

Properties: Wound healing, diabetic wound healing, anti-inflammatory, antiulcer 

Chemical constituents: caffeic acid, rutin, quercetin,  ferulic acid, 9- Eicosyne, Sqalene, Phytol etc 

Uses:  Leaves are useful in healing wounds and cuts 

Propagation: It is propagated by cuttings.
