Distribution and Habitat: Throughout India.
Botany: A somewhat fleshy climbing shrub, up to 4 m high, densely pubescent; tendrils short, slender and branched
- Leaves: Alternate, 3 or 5 foliate, usually pubescent, 7-9 cm, leaflets ovate, suborbicular, 4-6 cm x 3-4 cm, thin, coriaceous, base obtuse, margin dentate, stipules 2, triangular,
- Inflorescence: Cymes umbellate or corymbose; flowers 5mm across, greenish white
- Fruits: Fleshy berries ovoid, pink when ripe; seeds 2, pyriform or triangular, rounded and rugose on the back.
Properties: The plant is sour, astringent and diuretic.
Chemical constituent: Stem, root and leaf contain hydrocyanic acid.
Uses: It is used in fever, neuralgia, splenopathy, cardiac disorders and purifies blood,
Propagation: seeds and stem cuttings.
